Corporate Culture
Knowledge Sharing
Document Delivery

Information technology is an enabler of knowledge management, and provides the basic infrastructure which enables knowledge sharing to happen, but organisations should not expect their knowledge management solution to start and end with a single advanced tool.

Resistance to change is a normal human reaction, and never more so that when a potential threat is seen. In particular, without strong leadership which spreads the benefits of information sharing, employees could initially view a knowledge management initiative not as an opportunity both for the organisation and themselves, but rather as a threat to their job security.

Instead of information technology therefore, the starting point for a knowledge management solution is corporate culture, and in particular the need for a knowledge sharing culture to pervade every level of the organisation. The aim must be to create a corporate culture that encourages information sharing, so that people engaged in an initiative do not hesitate to consult others when appropriate, and people with relevant knowledge do not hesitate to share it with others.
